Emergency Medicine Physician (SMG) Southern Acute Resources Group (ARG)

WVU Medicine, West Virginia University Health System Medical Group (WVUHS Medical Group), is actively recruiting Emergency Medicine Physicians to join our Acute Resource Group (ARG). The ARG is an internal group of mobile physicians supporting our system Emergency Departments throughout West Virginia and Pennsylvania, with potential expansion to additional states. The ARG Emergency Medicine Physicians cover acute needs in our system Emergency Departments, ensuring high-quality care. All facilities currently use Epic Electronic Medical System or will adopt Epic within the next 12 months.

Responsibilities:
  1. Practice in Emergency Medicine across various WVU Health System Emergency Departments, including Bluefield, Braxton, Princeton, Summersville, and Thomas Hospitals.
Qualifications:
  • M.D. or D.O. degree or foreign equivalent.
  • Board Certified/Eligible; residency trained in Emergency Medicine preferred, but physicians trained and board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with experience will be considered.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid state license.
  • Qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has over 200 full-time members across diverse practice sites. There are additional career opportunities for Emergency Medicine physicians seeking various clinical experiences with an academic affiliation to WVU's School of Medicine.

WVU Health System has expanded significantly in specialties such as cancer, heart and vascular, and neuroscience. It operates West Virginia's first and only multi-organ transplant center and opened a new 150-bed Children's Hospital in September 2022.

  • Bluefield Regional Medical Center: Offers 24-hour emergency care, inpatient care, surgery, outpatient services, and is located in Bluefield, WV.
  • Braxton County Memorial Hospital: Critical access hospital in Gassaway, WV, with emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and primary care services.
  • Princeton Community Hospital: Located in Mercer County, WV, with comprehensive community healthcare services.
  • Summersville Regional Medical Center: Provides acute, emergency, outpatient, and inpatient care in Summersville, WV.
  • Thomas Memorial Hospital: Based in Charleston, WV, with accessibility and a vibrant city environment.
