Indian Health Service (IHS) is seeking physicians to deliver expert, patient-centered medical care across diverse specialties. The role emphasizes collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to provide safe, effective care and to contribute to clinical teaching and program development.

The position requires U.S. citizenship, appropriate licensure, and adherence to federal background and employment verification processes.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from a U.S. or Canadian accredited medical school.
• Active, unrestricted license in a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
• Foreign medical graduates must be ECFMG-certified or hold equivalency to U.S. trained physicians.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert patient-centered medical care, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute, chronic, and preventive health needs within specialty.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated care, reviewing conflicting medical evidence to reach conclusions.

• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical innovation initiatives to advance healthcare delivery.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Male candidates born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S. or Canadian accredited medical school.
• Foreign medical graduate degrees must be equivalent to accredited U.S. schools, demonstrated by ECFMG certification, a fifth pathway certificate, or completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
• Active, unrestricted, full license or registration as a Physician issued by a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
• At least one year of supervised internship or residency experience in a clinical setting.

Minimum Qualifications (by grade level):

• GS‑13: 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience.
• GS‑14: 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience.
• GS‑15: 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience.

• Specialty programs include the following areas: Anatomic & Clinical Pathology, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, General Surgery, Hospitalist, Informatics, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Oral Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Pathology, Palliative, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, Primary Care, Psychiatry, Radiology, Tele‑Psychiatry.
• Board certification is preferred but not required.
