Job summary

St. Luke’s University Health Network in Allentown, PA seeks a qualified physician to perform comprehensive history and physical examinations, and to provide high-quality, evidence-based care within standardized orders and guidelines.

The role requires ongoing collaboration with referring physicians, patients, and families, plus participation in education and health maintenance for patients of all ages. Current medical licensure and board eligibility/certification are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited medical school.
• Completion of residency and/or fellowship in the area of specialty.
• MD or DO licensed by the state licensure board.

Responsibilities

• Performs history and physical examination of all patients.
• Provides cost-effective, high-quality care based on evidence-based medicine.
• Adheres to standardized orders and practice guidelines approved by the medical staff.
• Demonstrates competency in assessment, treatment, and communication appropriate to the age of the patient.
• Communicates regularly and timely with referring physicians, patients, and families.
• Participates in education of patients and their families.
• Evaluates and implements patient health-care needs, performing routine exams and obtaining histories.
• Manages patient treatment program based on assessment of needs and initiates treatment.
• Reviews lab results and plans actions accordingly.
• Performs routine health maintenance activities for new and established patients.
• Coordinates patient care and makes referrals to physicians, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, and other professionals as needed.
• Collaborates and communicates with nurses, physicians, and outside agencies regarding patient care.
• Provides family counseling with public and mental health agencies as appropriate.
• Teaches wellness habits and educates patients on prevention of potential health problems.
• Provides information and materials related to patient health-care needs.
• Maintains knowledge of current medical practices and skills.
• Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity and follows reporting requirements for release of information.
• Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding employee, patient, and environmental safety.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

• Sitting: up to 3 hours per day, in 3‑hour intervals.
• Standing: up to 8 hours per day, in 8‑hour intervals.
• Walking: up to 6 hours per day, in 1‑hour intervals.
• Frequent fingering, handling, grasping, twisting, and turning related to therapeutic procedures.
• Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 pounds.
• Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 pounds.
• Rarely lift with assistance up to 100 pounds.
• Rarely push and pull patients weighing up to 300 pounds in a wheelchair or stretcher.
• Occasionally stoop and bend.
• Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch.
• Normal near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
• Normal hearing for conversation and high and low frequencies.

Education

Graduate of an accredited medical school and completion of residency and/or fellowship in the area of specialty.

Training and Experience

Current or recent experience in area of specialty.

License and Certifications

• MD or DO licensed by the state licensure board within the State of practice.
• Board Certified or Eligible in the area of specialty by the appropriate medical board.
