Job summary

Cherokee Federal is seeking a qualified Physician in Spring Valley, Nevada, for on-site duties at MEPS locations. The physician will conduct medical evaluations, ensure compliance with regulations, and inform applicants of their health statuses.

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution and have at least three years of relevant training or experience.

Job description

Eligibility and Citizenship

This position is restricted to U.S. citizens. A Common Access Card (CAC) and clearance from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) are required.

On‑Site Duties

The role requires on‑site duties at one of the MEPS locations.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Physician: Pay commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA, Privacy Act, USMEPCOM, DoD, and applicable service regulations.
  • Conducts thorough medical record reviews, histories, and physical examinations per DoD standards; evaluates lab results, ensures accurate profiling, and coordinates with consultants and Service waiver authorities.
  • Evaluates diagnostic test results to identify disqualifying conditions.
  • Performs comprehensive in‑person medical histories for authorized applicants.
  • Assesses applicants for injuries, deformities, defects, and disorders across all body systems, including dental, psychiatric, and behavioral, and conducts a standardized orthopedic‑neurological exam.
  • Determines the need for further physical examination of identified problem areas.
  • Directly informs applicants of abnormal findings through personal consultation or written communication.
  • Conveys updates to medical staff for entry into the USMEPCOM‑specific applicant database.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non‑sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
  • All health care providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification.
  • Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate clinical privileges.
  • One‑year supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required.
  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
  • Occasional Saturdays may be required.
  • To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent from a U.S. or Canadian school accredited by a recognized accrediting body.
  • Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
  • After obtaining the degree, a candidate must have at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting.
  • Applicants must possess at least three years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
  • Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to U.S. accredited programs; or full credit given for courses at a U.S. accredited institution.
  • Must pass the pre‑employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
