Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking an experienced Interventional Radiologist who is board certified or eligible and has at least one year of ACGME accredited fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

The successful candidate will provide a broad range of IR procedures, participate in teaching and on-call rotations, maintain BLS/ACLS, and work in a mission-driven federal healthcare setting at an on-site facility in Kansas City.

Qualifications

• Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Radiology.
• Minimum one-year ACGME fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
• United States citizenship and an unrestricted medical license.
• ACGME/AOA approved residency/fellowship or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide a broad range of interventional radiology procedures.
• Maintain ALARA radiation safety principles and patient safety.
• Interpret diagnostic imaging across modalities (CT, MRI, fluoroscopy, ultrasound).
• Utilize PACS and voice-recognition systems; maintain documentation.
• Attend on-call rotations and participate in FPPE/OPPE and peer review.
• Mentor and supervise radiology residents and students.
• Participate in hospital conferences (vascular, tumor boards).

Summary

The Department of Radiology at the Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking an experienced and dynamic Interventional Radiologist. Applicants are required to be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Radiology and to have a minimum of one-year ACGME accredited fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements (if applicable) as specified in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States citizenship
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved medical school
• Active, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
• Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification
• Experience: (1) Completed residency or fellowship approved by ACGME or AOA, or (2) One year of post‑medical‑school training approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice, or (3) Non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of independent practice in the United States.
• Residents currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited residency program who otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• BLS/ACLS certification
• Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Radiology and a minimum of one-year ACGME accredited fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology
• Teaching of medical students and residents is an integral part of the position

Duties

• Provide standard of care interventional radiology services in a broad scope of diagnostic and interventional procedures, including diagnostic angiography, angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, embolization, radiofrequency ablation, drainages, biliary and urinary procedures, biopsies, paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, pain procedures, and prostate artery embolizations.
• Exercise expertise in radiation safety, biological effects of radiation, and ALARA principles.
• Interpret diagnostic radiology studies in modalities such as computed tomography, general radiography, fluoroscopy, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, DEXA, and ultrasonography.
• Utilize integrated PACS systems and voice‑recognition systems.
• Maintain BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Attend on‑call rotations as required.
• Remain highly visible and accessible to patients and referring physicians.
• Provide training, mentoring, and supervision to UMKC School of Medicine radiology residents.
• Adhere to timely and accurate CPRS documentation and VA training requirements, participate in FPPE/OPPE and peer review, and uphold the integrity of protected health information.
• Maintain acceptable personal clinical productivity as determined by national productivity goals and the Service Chief, and facilitate clinic staff productivity.
• Participate routinely in hospital conferences such as vascular conference, pulmonary conference, and tumor board.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

• Work schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with required on‑call rotation.
