Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student‑loan payment reimbursement program. Qualified applicants must meet the specific eligibility requirements set by VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval—including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years)—is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office. Former EDRP participants are not eligible to apply.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the announcement. Candidates pending completion of training or license requirements may be preliminarily selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are satisfied. Current VA physicians who met the prior qualification standard at the time of initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements

• U.S. citizenship (non‑citizens may be appointed only if no qualified citizens are available in accordance with VA policy)
• Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs
• Full and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state, territory, Common­wealth, or the District of Columbia
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program that leads to board‑certification eligibility (or equivalent alternatives as specified)
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred Experience

• Board eligible or board certified
• At least two years of experience as an attending physician
• Experience with interventional radiology procedures (e.g., TACE, microwave ablation, renal cryoablation, stenting, angiography, venography, etc.)
• Competence in diagnostic imaging modalities (fluoroscopy, radiography, sonography, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, mammography, DXA)

Duties

• Primary responsibility for interventional radiology procedures, including review of orders, pre‑procedure preparation, and post‑procedure care and documentation in CPRS or other EHR systems.
• Coordinate care within the IR team and with other staff, including outside providers when necessary.
• Perform consultative chart and imaging review, integrating imaging findings into patient management.
• Execute a broad range of invasive interventional procedures (e.g., TACE, microwave ablation, renal cryoablation, suprapubic cystostomy, IVC access, peripheral stenting, diagnostic and therapeutic angiography, venography, fistulograms, PEG tube placement, lumbar puncture, myelogram, image‑guided biopsy).
• Provide diagnostic interpretations of imaging studies produced by the Imaging Section.
• Maintain quality of diagnostic examinations performed by the Imaging Section.
• Perform administrative duties such as maintaining statistical records, participating on clinical staff boards, committees, medical‑education programs, and the Department’s Quality Assurance Program.
• Actively manage personal productivity to meet VHA benchmarks, modify workload, and develop corrective action plans when necessary.
• Use PACS and voice dictation to ensure timely and accurate imaging reporting.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; occasional work outside core hours; physician will rotate on General and/or Interventional Radiology Call. Schedule is subject to change based on facility needs.
