The role you’ll contribute:

The Physician Informatics Advocate Intermediate has an extensive understanding of healthcare applications in use at AdventHealth, the ability to analyze and understand business problems, and the knowledge to make solution recommendations that meet organizational goals of maintaining clinical and business systems. They are dedicated to facilitating a secure, effective, and integrated electronic medical record system that continually focuses on improving outcomes, reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and enhancing user experiences. The Advocate can work independently on projects of moderate complexity, identifying ways that EMR technology improves workflow efficiency and engaging in multiple initiatives simultaneously. They are involved in analysis, design, implementation, optimization, and application support; troubleshooting and issue resolution. They utilize knowledge of clinical practice and AH performance improvement processes to achieve goals. They also participate in mentoring less experienced team members and are responsible for customizing order sets, documentation views, macros, and auto-text within the EMR.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Serve as a facility resource person and role model in the use of clinical information systems, maintaining thorough knowledge of supported applications.
  • Conduct rounds with providers during care delivery to assess functionality, impact on workflow, and document requests. Analyze requirements to propose solutions and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Research, validate, and log provider EMR enhancement requests, discussing solutions with providers and operational teams for approval.
  • Conduct annual outreach with medical staff, sharing application tips, guiding best practices, and communicating modifications made to applications.
  • Engage in daily rounding in the acute setting with providers to proactively recognize and resolve issues and share knowledge.
  • Provide education on new applications or functionalities, conduct provider orientations, train-the-trainer sessions, and utilize various learning tools.
  • Assist with change management strategies to ensure smooth implementation of new applications and updates.
  • Support go-live and post-go-live activities at local and other facilities, including readiness to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Develop and maintain health IT training materials, conduct classroom training, and orient providers to applications.
  • Proctor training sessions, adapt to training needs, and provide hands-on instruction and re-education as needed.
  • Provide 24/7 support for providers and extenders, including national travel for major implementations.
  • Communicate application changes per SOPs, document technical specifications, and contribute to standards and policies.
  • Support applications, troubleshoot issues, support upgrades, and stay current on system updates.
  • Attend medical staff and AIT meetings, collaborating with leadership, vendors, and end users to develop and deploy applications and new functionalities.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, respiratory therapy, or cardiopulmonary science REQUIRED
  • Master's degree in Informatics, Computer Science, or IT PREFERRED
  • Experience with Epic or similar EMR PREFERRED
  • Minimum 5 years clinical and informatics experience REQUIRED
  • Recent experience with health IT REQUIRED
  • Experience supporting provider-used applications PREFERRED
  • Advanced clinical knowledge of healthcare practices and provider workflows
  • Industry experience with electronic medical records
