Our practice is very busy outpatient pediatrics but not a busy pediatric hospital. Most on-call time involves phone triage and advice, with approximately 10-15 calls per weekend. Mothers in labor with infants with known abnormalities or pre-term labor are transferred prior to delivery. Many weekends have no deliveries; typical weekends include 1-2 C-sections, with remaining deliveries routine.
Hospital admissions are for routine pediatric diagnoses such as asthma, dehydration, fever, and pneumonia. We do not handle NICU or PICU cases; these are transferred to specialized facilities.
