Summary
The Syracuse VAMC is seeking BE/BC Hospitalists / Nocturnists to provide staffing coverage as needed on weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with verified practice in the U.S.
- Residents enrolled in accredited residency programs who meet other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and can only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Eligible / Board Certified.
- Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Duties
- Provide general inpatient internal medicine care, supervise and educate residents and medical students, and participate in educational activities.
- Collaborate with hospital staff, serve as a resource for primary care providers, and participate in research, quality improvement, and teaching activities.
- Provide inpatient consultation services, attendings, and supervision of medical consultative staff.
- Participate in a rotation for night coverage if needed, including cross-covering ICU and admissions with backup from intensivists.
- Maintain board certification, serve on committees, ensure timely documentation, and participate in quality assurance.
- Engage in teaching, discharge planning, meetings, inter-hospital transfers, and other departmental activities.
- Work schedule as needed, typically 12-hour shifts: M-F 7 PM to 7 AM, weekends, and holidays as required.
