Summary

The Syracuse VAMC is seeking BE/BC Hospitalists / Nocturnists to provide staffing coverage as needed on weeknights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited program.
  • Residents enrolled in accredited programs who meet other requirements may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), with limitations.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Board Eligible / Board Certified.
  • Physical requirements in accordance with VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Duties
  • Provide general inpatient internal medicine care, supervising residents and medical students.
  • Participate in educational activities and collaborate with hospital staff.
  • Serve as a resource for primary care providers, ensuring smooth patient transitions.
  • Engage in research, quality improvement, and teaching related to your interests.
  • Provide inpatient consultation services and clinical procedures within your expertise.
  • Participate in evening coverage rotations and serve on hospital committees as needed.
  • Maintain board certification, complete medical records timely, and participate in quality assurance.
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in inter-hospital transfers.
  • Work schedule as needed, typically 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
