Job summary

The Alexandria VA Health Care System in Louisiana seeks a Board Eligible/Board Certified Hospitalist to join an established hospitalist group that provides 24/7 inpatient care. The Alexandria VA Health Care System is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Hospitalist in Medical Service to join an established hospitalist group of seven (7) which provides 24/7 inpatient care.

The Alexandria VA Health Care System, Alexandria, Louisiana is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 3 facility serving Veterans within 23 of Louisiana's 64 parishes. The Alexandria VA Health Care System is located in Pineville, Louisiana with community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) in Jennings, Lafayette, Fort Polk, and Natchitoches, Louisiana

Seeking Board Certified/Board Eligible Hospitalist physician to join an established hospitalist group of which provides 24/7 inpatient care.

Schedule will vary as 7on/7off 12 hour shifts,or a40 hour per week swingshift approximately 1pm-9pm, Monday - Friday dependent upon coverage need. Would occasionally provide nocturnist coverage (1-2 times per year).

Census averages 8 12 patients daily.

ICU care is primarily provided by dedicated Intensivist but Hospitalist physician must be comfortable with basic ICU care and bedside procedures. Must be ACLS/BLS certified. Main responsibilities are admissions, discharges and ongoing care of medical inpatients. Record Keeping is entirely electronic. Additional responsibilities include medical consultations of non-medical patients, involvement with quality improvement and utilization review.

Required Skills

Citizenship:

Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.)

Education:

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:

• Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
• Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
• Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
• For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.

Licensure and Registration:

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.

Board Certification:

Board certified or Board eligible in Internal Medicine or aspecialty area based on the needs of the VA Health Care System.

Physical Standards:

Applicant must meet the physical requirements of the position. Tentatively selected applicant is subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants that refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA. (VA Directive and Handbook 5019).

Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient‑care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
