Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous standard at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred Experience: Board certified in Hematology and Oncology.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, heavy lifting, reaching, and bending.
Duties
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, plus on-call duties.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient hematology/oncology care, including consultative support, managing active cancer or hematologic disease, supervising chemotherapy and infusion procedures, and performing bone marrow biopsies.
  • Participate in oncology conferences, supervise fellows, and engage in clinical trials and research activities.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, serve on committees, and participate in academic activities, including potential affiliation with the University of Kansas Medical Center.
