Job description

Summary

Position eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet all basic requirements and any additional qualifications listed in the announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements

• United States Citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
• Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent medical degree from an approved VA school for the year of completion.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty leading to board certification, or approved by ACGME or AOA, or one year of approved post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice, or non‑US residency with at least three years of verified independent practice in the US.
• Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs and otherwise meeting basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs).
• PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent basis.
• PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they have a scope of practice allowing certain restricted duties under supervision.

Duties

• Provide direct patient care and/or attending oversight, including admission H&P, progress notes, transfer notes, continuing provider review notes, and communication with veteran families.
• Work as an integral member of the Geriatrics & Extended Care line, coordinating patient care with other staff members.
• Participate in scheduled clinical and administrative meetings with the care line.
• Potentially serve as Medical Director of the Community Living Centers, overseeing clinical and administrative operations.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care‑planning meetings with clinical and administrative staff.
• Supervise or collaborate with geriatric mid‑level providers.
• Provide clinical oversight and peer review of other geriatric providers through chart reviews.
• Supervise, educate, and evaluate internal medicine residents, medical students, and fellows in Community Living Centers and Home‑Based Primary Care settings.
• Monitor quality and performance measures within the Community Living Center for compliance with federal statutes, VA directives, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with disciplines such as rehabilitation, nursing, social work, recreation therapy, pharmacy, chaplaincy, infection control, and organizational leadership.
• Establish and conduct half‑day or weekly geriatric assessment clinics.
• Work full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Compensation and Benefits
