Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are considered to have met the basic standards.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited as per VA Policy.
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
- Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification, in an accredited program.
- For residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA residencies, eligibility for appointment as Physician Resident Provider (PRP).
- PRPs must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, not considered independent practitioners.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred experience in Geriatrics and Palliative Care, with willingness to train further.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including standing, walking, bending, twisting, and light carrying.
Duties
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered care to Veterans in various settings including Community Living Center, Home Based Primary Care, Geriatrics Evaluation Management, GERIPACT, and Palliative/Hospice Care at the Coatesville VA Medical Center, Pennsylvania.
- Serve as the key clinical point for geriatric services, collaborating with other providers and specialists for inpatient and outpatient care.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat healthcare issues, including history-taking, physical exams, diagnostic testing, referrals, and medication management.
- Communicate with primary and specialty care providers to coordinate patient care.
- Implement evidence-based practices for symptom management, including palliative and end-of-life care.
- Assist patients and families with care goals and participate in interdisciplinary team planning and meetings.
- Provide clinical oversight to Physician Assistants and other team members as applicable.
- Participate in inpatient coverage, pre-admission screening, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary rounds.
- May need to visit patients’ homes for palliative or primary care services.
