Position Highlights:

• This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, skilled general surgeon to take over an established, well-regarded clinical practice due to the retirement of the current provider. The practice is well integrated into a mult-specialty medical group including strong primary care and selected specialties. It offers a loyal patient and referral base and a strong reputation at the hospital and within the community. This is an excellent chance for a surgeon to step into a thriving practice with immediate patient volume and growth potential.
• Successful candidates should have an interest in developing and expanding our current practice.
• Situated on Chicago’s scenic Lakeshore Drive, Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital was established in 1868 and is a full service health care facility with a long history of providing Catholic healthcare to the residents of Chicago’s north side neighborhoods. We are five-star rated - the highest level - by HealthGrades, an independent health care ratings company, in six clinical areas and are among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals for stroke care. Our medical staff of nearly 600 physicians are leaders in their field, conducting clinical research and teaching a new generation of health care providers.
• Depending on the experience, skills and interests of the candidate, the role can be expanded to include responsibility as the general surgery residency program director. The Saint Joseph Hospital general surgery residency program currently supports 2 residents per academic year (10 total residents).

• Collaborate with program leadership to ensure alignment with ACGME accreditation standards and educational objectives.
• Participate in curriculum development and scholarly activities, mentor and support residents in their professional development, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
• Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
• Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
• Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Requirements

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

• Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Credentials are verified by local staff credentialing office.
• Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
