Summary
This is an Open Continuous Announcement and may be extended beyond the current closing date until the position is filled. Eligible applications will be referred at regular intervals as additional vacancies occur and/or on an as-needed basis during the duration of the announcement. Once a selection is made and an offer is accepted, the announcement may close pending no additional vacancies.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who meet the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
- PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
- Research experience relevant to veteran healthcare.
- Experience in establishing and executing research projects.
- Ability to prepare reports and ensure standards of patient care.
- Supervision and collaboration with healthcare staff.
- Participation in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Experience with hypoglossal nerve stimulator placement and management.
- Proficiency in managing head and neck malignancies.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Light lifting and carrying under 15 pounds.
- Use of fingers, walking, rapid coordination.
- Near vision correction, depth perception, color discrimination, hearing.
- Environmental factors include working indoors and outdoors, in heat, cold, humidity, dust, and close contact with others.
Duties
- Provides guidance and supervision for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and health technicians.
- Guides and supervises medical students and residents.
- Delivers quality care to inpatients and outpatients.
- Participates in quality improvement, research, and committee activities.
- Supports the medical center's research mission and conducts treatment studies.
- Revises work schedules to meet workload demands.
- Adheres to VA research protocols and policies.
- Responsible to the Chief of Surgical Service.
- Communicates courteously with patients, families, and staff.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:30 pm.
