Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license requirements may be temporarily accepted, but employment is contingent upon meeting all requirements. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable
• Degree of MD or equivalent from an approved school
• Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA in an accredited program leading to board eligibility
• For residents enrolled in accredited programs, appointment as Physician Resident Provider is possible, but they must be fully licensed and only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019

Duties

• Provide comprehensive Gastroenterology care, including diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and patient education at the Rochester Calkins Clinic, with occasional travel to Canandaigua VA Medical Center
• Perform standard GI procedures such as upper endoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy
• Serve on committees, participate in quality assurance programs, and support performance measures
• Manage patients with Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine conditions
• Proficient in and privileged for procedures related to Gastroenterology
• Evaluate and prioritize consult requests, develop treatment and follow-up plans
• Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and participate in process improvement teams
• Maintain competency through CME and complete mandatory VA training
