Summary
This position is located at the York County VA Clinic in York, PA, with travel to the Cumberland County VA Clinic in Mechanicsburg, PA, as needed to provide care to Veterans. It is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion may lead to tentative referral and selection, but hiring is contingent upon meeting all requirements. Existing VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are considered qualified.
Basic Requirements:
- US Citizenship: Non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
- Degree: MD or equivalent from an accredited school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs at the time of graduation.
- License: Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in the US or its territories.
- Residency: Completion of approved residency training in a core specialty leading to board eligibility, approved by the VA Secretary.
- Residency Accreditation: ACGME, AOA, or equivalent non-US programs with at least five years of verified practice in the US.
- Residents: Enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs and eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers, fully licensed, and appointed on a limited basis.
- English Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.

- Physical Requirements: Includes frequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting, maintaining an upright position, moving about, and lifting objects/patients as needed for patient care.
Duties
- Offer comprehensive VA care, including inpatient and outpatient services in gastroenterology.
- Perform procedures, attend medical staff meetings, review charts, coordinate with other providers, document in electronic health records, and perform history and physicals within 24 hours of request.
- Manage outpatient encounters, document consults, process prescriptions, and participate in educational and evaluation activities for patients.
- Serve on committees, participate in quality assurance, and contribute to performance improvement initiatives.
- Utilize telehealth and electronic consultations to enhance access to GI care.
- Work closely with staff to ensure compliance with standards and treat conditions like reflux, ulcers, IBS, IBD, polyps, hepatitis C, cirrhosis, hemorrhoids, pancreatitis, and colon cancer.
- Additional duties as assigned, including participating in peer review and quality assurance programs.
