Job description

Overview

JOB SUMMARY

Central Health is seeking a skilled gastroenterologist to join their expanding team and provide care to the underserved community in Travis County. The role involves providing direct patient care and performing GI endoscopies. Additionally, the gastroenterologist will complete e-consults and e-reviews in an outpatient clinic setting as required.

In this position, the gastroenterologist will play a crucial role in designing clinical workflows aimed at improving access to care, supporting evidence-based practices, and enhancing overall efficiency. This role also includes serving as an attending physician for learners at various levels and potentially supervising advanced practice providers.

As a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, the gastroenterologist will collaborate closely with patients to jointly improve their quality of life. This is a full-time outpatient clinical role that involves direct clinical sessions, divided between ambulatory visits, e-consults/reviews, and conducting endoscopies. Ten percent of clinical time is allocated to administrative tasks.

This position is considered on-site.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Conducts gastroenterology consultations, endoscopy procedures, e-consults, and e-reviews in an outpatient clinic setting.
  2. Orders and interprets various tests and diagnostic imaging to gain insights into the patient's condition.
  3. Offers diagnoses and treatment for diseases, disorders, and injuries based on a patient's medical history and physical assessment results. Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners for specialized care when necessary.
  4. Prescribes medications and recommends referrals for treatment and preventative healthcare.
  5. Provides patients and their families with instructions on procedures, at-home care, and follow-up visits.
  6. Directs and supervises Advanced Practice Providers as needed.
  7. Helps design clinical workflows aimed at enhancing access to care, promoting evidence-based practices, and optimizing efficiency.
  8. Actively communicates with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner in person and on the phone.
  9. Collaborates with Central Health's operations and clinical leadership to foster a cohesive and team-oriented environment.
  10. Demonstrates strong management skills, including efficient work planning, organization, and adherence to deadlines, with a focus on key priorities.
  11. Offers strong decision-making skills, especially in clinical matters.
  12. Contributes to yearly assessments of team members with guidance from the Practice Leader.
  13. Plans, promotes, demonstrates, recommends, and coordinates high standards of medical practice.
  14. Supports, leads, and models the vision, mission, and values of Central Health.
Qualifications

Education

Education Level

MD or DO degree with Board Certification (or Board Eligibility if within 2 years of residency) in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

Work Experience

Experience

2 years of clinical experience is required; 4 years of clinical experience with 2-year leadership/mentorship experience is preferred.
