Job summary

Connecticut Children’s, Hartford, CT, seeks a Fetal Care Physician to join the Division of Fetal Care. The role blends clinical, administrative, research and education duties with a multidisciplinary team including maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology and anesthesia.

Ideal candidates will have advanced fetal care training and board eligibility or certification in pediatric surgery or maternal-fetal medicine, supporting a comprehensive fetal care center at our Hartford campus.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from accredited school of medicine required.
  • Completed Board required training.
  • Advanced fetal care training, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Board eligible or certified in Pediatric surgery or maternal fetal medicine with advanced fetal care training.
  • Licensed and registered in CT with DEA certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat fetal anomalies.
  • Perform and/or order clinically appropriate procedures.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records per standards.
  • Collaborate with fetal care team and regional providers.

Job Description

The Fetal Care Physician’s responsibilities will include a combination of administrative, clinical, research and educational duties.The Physician is responsible for evaluation and treatment of fetal patients. They will participate in team meetings, rounds, as well as have a broad multidisciplinary relationships with the fetal care team, neonatal intensivists, maternal fetal medicine specialists as well as anesthesiologists. The Physician will be responsible for fostering an environment of professionalism and enhancing growth and education in fetal care.
This position will report directly to the Division Chief of Fetal Care and Surgeon in Chief.

Responsibilities

Assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat fetal anomalies

Performs and/or orders clinically appropriate procedures for each patient.

Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, clinical examinations and perform physical examinations in formulating a diagnosis, plan of care and documenting in conformity with applicable professional standards, third party payer requirements and the Division’s policies and procedures.

Provide exceptional health care delivery to fetal patients for the hospital.

Works collaboratively with and refers patients to other physicians, including other specialists and health care practitioners, when necessary.

Foster collaboration within the department and interdepartmentally.

Fosters collaboration and strategic relationships with regional hospital systems and providers

Work collaboratively with division chief and fetal care team to build the fetal care center.

Keeps and maintains accurate, complete, appropriate, timely and legible medical records relating to all professional services provided.

Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice.

Reviews on a regular basis long-term cases that require ongoing medical attention.

Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.

Identifies opportunities for enhancing quality care while supporting quality improvement projects that are consistent with Joint Commission standards as well as institutional priorities.

Participate in education of students, residents, and fellows, including their development.

Participate in clinical activities as well as research

Maintain the requirements for an academic appointment at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate from accredited school of medicine required

Completed Board required training

Experience:

Advanced training in fetal care preferentially in an academic environment

License / Certification / Registration:

Board eligible or certified in Pediatric surgery or maternal fetal medicine with advanced training in fetal care

Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut

Active and Unrestricted D.E.A. Certificate

Knowledge

Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques

Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment

Knowledge and competence in use of EHR

Skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette

Demonstrated skills in developing and implementing quality improvement projects or clinical guidelines to decrease variation in practice would be highly valued

Excellent patient safety and quality skills

Abilities

Performs duties in a tactful and professional manner

Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adulthood and applies them to practice

Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families

Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children’s STANDARDS
