Overview

Physician (Family Practice), NBHC Everett, Everett, WA

Naval Base Kitsap is located in Kitsap County and is composed of Naval Base Kitsap - Bangor and Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton. Each base has its own specialties: Bangor works with the submarine communities and Bremerton with the Ship communities. Naval Base Kitsap Bremerton is also connected to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard which works with major ship and submarine overhauls. The two towns of Bremerton and Silverdale are dependent upon the Department of Defense for the highest commerce of the county.

Additionally, centrally located between Bangor and Bremerton is Naval Hospital Bremerton, a fully accredited, community-based acute care and obstetrical hospital, and hosting a variety of specialty clinics.

Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor is located on the Kitsap Peninsula across Puget Sound from Seattle. Travel from Seattle via Seattle-Bainbridge Island ferry (30 minute crossing time) or the Seattle-Bremerton ferry (60 minute crossing time) or drive around the Sound by going south from Seattle to Tacoma on Interstate 5. At Tacoma, take State Hwy 16 west to Gorst, then Hwy 3 north to Silverdale and Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. From the Seattle-Tacoma (SEATAC) airport, the drive is approximately 1 1/2 hours (depending on traffic conditions). From the south of Tacoma, drive north on I-5, west to Highway 16 and drive north to Hwy 3 to Bremerton/Silverdale area. Follow signs for Main Gate entrance.

Responsibilities

MAJOR DUTIES:

1. Serves as a recognized technical authority in the delivery of Family Medicine. Independently formulates full treatment plans based on sound evaluation and diagnoses consistent with current and/ or evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Diagnoses illnesses and prescribes and administers healthcare treatment plans for people suffering from injury or disease. Coordinates with facility and community resources to provide multi-disciplinary comprehensive care to all patients, taking into account factors such as new and/or emerging procedures and techniques and the patient’s personal history, as well as information gained through diagnostic tests. Applies new procedures in the evaluation and treatment of complex patient cases and conducts research for the advancement of the Family Medicine program and for quality improvement to other providers and patients. Performs emergency services or crisis intervention, including life-saving emergency procedures when necessary. Promotes preventative and health maintenance care, stresses positive health behaviors and self-care through education and counseling. Encourages patients to make difficult lifestyle changes to improve their heath and provides follow-up treatment and care to patients to ascertain compliance with therapy and response to treatment. Provides advice by telephone and/or in person to other physicians, non-physician providers, and other professional medical staff on the care of patients with urgent, emergent, and nonurgent medical problems. 2. Serves as member of the professional medical staff and provides advisory and consultative services on various meetings, committees, conferences, and/ or boards. Participates in committees/ meetings that evaluate the care provided to patients at MTF, identifies opportunities to change the care delivered, advises on difficult or complex cases, and recommends corrective action when problems exist. Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) functions, performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and peer review programs. Makes recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features. (25%)

Additional information about transcripts isin this document.Basic Requirement for Physician (Family Practice):Degree:Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.Licensure:Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.Graduate Training:Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:Residency Training:Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled(Family Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
