Summary

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area of Family Practice, providing diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients of all ages.

Note: This is an open continuous announcement; applicants will be referred when vacancies occur.

Duties
  1. Responsible for the practice of medicine or direct services to patients involving diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
  2. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat and prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  3. Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients' conditions.
  4. Monitor patients' progress and re-evaluate treatments as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or treatments with patients.
  5. Coordinate work with Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and other health professionals in providing health services.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Position involves contact or control over Indian children; must not have certain criminal convictions.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Immunizations required or exemption request submitted.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass E-Verify employment verification.
  • Set up direct deposit for payments.
  • Pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation required.
Qualifications

Experience and/or education must be sufficient to perform the duties. Includes volunteer and part-time experience. Must clearly state duties and hours per week.

Basic requirements include:

  • Degree: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Foreign medical degree must demonstrate US equivalency.
  • Current, active, unrestricted medical license.
  • At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree.

For GS-13, 3 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Family Medicine.

Applicants must meet the specific board certification or active pursuit requirements as outlined.

Submit transcripts or course list. Only accredited schools recognized by the US Department of Education are accepted.
