Job summary

SEARHC seeks a Family Medicine physician to provide comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages in Southeast Alaska. The role includes participation in shared after-hours on-call coverage, documentation per policy, and ongoing commitment to quality patient care within SEARHC guidelines.

Ideal candidates hold Alaska MD or DO licensure, board eligibility in Family Medicine, active DEA, and SEARHC privileges. BLS and CALS are required; ACLS/PALS/ATLS/NRP or equivalent are acceptable.

Qualifications

  • Well-versed in primary care principles and delivery of preventive care.
  • Knowledge of EMTALA, HIPAA, and risk management in medical practice.
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership and promote teamwork.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and clinical workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary care for a dedicated patient panel.
  • Participate in shared urgent/emergent on-call rotation.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation per SEARHC policy.
  • Deliver high-quality patient care with strong communication.
  • Participate in clinic meetings and SEARHC staff functions.
  • Maintain 36 patient-facing hours per week for a 1.0 FTE appointment.

Job description

The Rural Family Practice Physician

provides comprehensive family medicine services within the scope of training and experience to people of all ages and genders. In addition, depending upon the needs of the community, the Rural Physician participates in shared after- hours emergency call coverage. Medical care provided is consistent with SEARHC policy and procedure, Medical Staff Bylaws, and nationally recognized medical standards of care. Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
  • Provides comprehensive primary care including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, minor procedures, coordination of care, referral, preventative care, and health maintenance to a dedicated panel of patients.
  • Participates fully in shared local urgent/emergent care on-call rotation.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with SEARHC policy.
  • Provides optimal patient experience using strong listening and communication skills that build long term patient care relationships.
  • Actively participates in SEARHC quality patient care initiatives and quality assurance programs.
  • Actively participates in provider and clinic meetings, and SEARHC medical staff functions.
  • Maintains patient-facing clinical hours proportional to assigned FTE, with a minimum requirement of 36 patient-facing hours per week for a 1.0 FTE appointment; remaining work hours may be allocated to administrative duties, meetings, training, and other non-face-to-face patient care activities.
  • At times the Physician may be directed to provide services outside of the clinic to meet the patient's needs, e.g., local long-term care center, Pioneer Home, patient's home, and local schools
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • State of Alaska Medical License as an MD or DO.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine. If Board Eligible, at the time of hire, must be Board Certified within 3 years of start date.
  • Maintains active unrestricted DEA registration.
  • Maintains active SEARHC medical staff privileges.
  • BLS, CALS required. If no CALS, must have ACLS, PALS, ATLS, BLSO or ALSO, NRP.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Well versed in the principles and practices of primary care
  • Is aware of standards of care, EMTALA, HIPAA, health care risk management principles, medical ethics, and medical malpractice principles.
  • Provide high quality health care services including the performance of medical procedures appropriate to the outpatient and emergency care setting.
  • Provide clinical leadership, promotes teamwork and collaboration, provides clinical guidance as requested for midlevel providers, and resolves conflict.
  • Efficiently utilize the electronic medical record and other clinically required technology.
  • Express ideas clearly through oral and written communication skills, analyze complex situations efficiently and problem solve, and effectively implement clinical program strategies.
  • Communicating in an open, respectful, helpful, supportive, and collaborative manner with staff and patients.
