Job summary

The Sioux Falls VA Healthcare System seeks a Staff Endocrinologist to provide comprehensive care in general internal medicine and endocrinology, including outpatient, inpatient, and community living centers. Job description

• Department: Department of Veterans Affairs

This position is located in the Specialty Medicine Service Line at the Sioux Falls VA Healthcare System and reports directly to the Chief of Specialty Medicine. This is an open continuous announcement until Jun 30, 2026. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available.

Key Responsibilities

The staff Endocrinologist will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: Physician should have expertise in Endocrinology and be able to treat and manage patients who have illnesses related to General Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. Physician should also be proficient and privileged in procedures related to Endocrinology.

Provide comprehensive care to include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and education of patients with Endocrinology conditions in the outpatient, inpatient and community living center settings. Physician will work closely with the Diabetic Education staff and provide support and guidance. Complete documentation and coding of visits accurately and timely. Evaluate, triage, and prioritize Endocrinology consult requests to ensure timely care for patients.

Conduct telemedicine visits for patients in outlying clinics. Perform administrative tasks as assigned, such as peer reviews, Compensation and Pension evaluations, and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE). Coordinate care at VA or non-VA referral centers for patients requiring services not provided at the facility such as MOHS surgery. Attend staff meetings and service on committees, process improvement teams and workgroups as requested.

Completes CME as required to maintain competency in Endocrinology and medical licensure. Completes HIPAA, Privacy and Security and other mandatory VA training in a timely manner. • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

• Preferred Experience: 2-3 years in specialty experience, board certification

Requirements & Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.

Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.

NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.

The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
