Job description

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose is to provide technical expertise in emergency medical care and specialized trauma in outpatient and emergency room settings in hospitals operating on a 24-7 days per week schedule.

Basic Requirements
  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from an accredited school in the US or Canada. Accreditation must be recognized by relevant US bodies.
  • Degree from Foreign Medical School: Must demonstrate education and medical knowledge equivalent to US accredited schools, evidenced by certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or equivalent.
  • Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a US state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or US territory.
  • Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree, such as internship or residency, accredited by recognized US or Canadian bodies.
Minimum Qualifications

For GS-14: 4 years of graduate training in Emergency Medicine or equivalent experience and training within the specialty area.

Applicants completing a required professional training program within 9 months of applying may be considered tentatively qualified if they submit a letter confirming their expected completion date.

Selective Factor

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Board Certified in the specialty (ABMS or NBPAS), or
  • Residency Diploma/Certificate from an accredited program within the past three years, or
  • Active pursuit of Board Certification if more than three years from residency completion.

Verification of certification status must be provided; failure to do so may result in withdrawal of offer or termination.
