Summary
This position is located at various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose is to provide emergency medical care and trauma expertise in outpatient and ER settings, operating 24/7.

Duties

  1. Provides emergency care in the ER on a regular basis.
  2. Makes referrals and obtains consultations after primary evaluation.
  3. Recognizes and initially treats acute psychiatric issues.
  4. Provides emergency medicine expertise and consultation to facility providers.
  5. Serves on various committees including ER, Medical Staff, and Pharmacy & Therapeutics.
  6. Participates in performance improvement programs and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Probationary period may be required.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Position involves contact with Indian children; background checks are required.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Immunizations as per IHS Circular 2016-04 are required or exemptions must be submitted.
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff privileges and licensure.
  • On-call or standby duties may be required.
  • Must pass E-Verify and background checks.
  • Work on a rotational basis including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Direct deposit setup required.

Qualifications

Applicants must have relevant experience and/or education, including volunteer work. Active training programs expected to complete within 9 months can be considered with a supporting letter.

Basic requirements include a medical degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school, valid medical licensure, and at least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree.

Minimum qualifications for GS-13 require 3 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Emergency Medicine. Applicants must also meet the specific board certification or active pursuit requirements as a mandatory selective factor.
