Job description

We've made significant progress since opening in 1942, but our commitment remains unchanged: to serve, heal, lead, educate, and innovate. We believe every award earned, record broken, and patient helped is due to our dedicated employees.

At Ochsner, whether you work directly with patients or support those who do, you are making a difference. Join us at Ochsner Health and discover your future today!

Ochsner Children's Hospital is seeking a Director of Pediatric Heart Failure/Heart Transplant physician, along with a second Pediatric Heart Failure/Heart Transplant physician, in the only pediatric heart transplant center in Louisiana.

This position involves caring for patients with cardiomyopathies, heart failure, transplants, congenital heart disease, and ventricular assist devices. The transplant team is supported by a dedicated physician assistant, two transplant coordinators, a transplant psychologist, social worker, and pharmacist. Ochsner participates actively in PHTS and ACTION. Qualified applicants should be BC/BE in pediatric cardiology and have completed an advanced fellowship in pediatric heart failure/heart transplant or have at least 5 years of experience in the field.

Ochsner Children's offers comprehensive services in pediatric cardiology, including heart failure/transplant, EP, ACHD, interventional cardiology, imaging (echocardiography, MRI, CT), fetal cardiology, a single ventricle program, and neurodevelopmental clinics. The heart center comprises 21 cardiologists, 3 congenital heart surgeons, 6 intensivists in a dedicated pediatric ICU, and 3 pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists. The program performs around 250 cardiac surgeries, 400 catheterizations (75% interventional), and 19,000 outpatient visits annually across Louisiana and Mississippi. Our program has been ranked by US News & World Report for six consecutive years, and survival rates post-surgery for complex cases are in the top 10% of STS reporting programs.

Our integrated pediatric program provides multispecialty care for children and young adults, including liver and bone marrow transplants, advanced GI and Hepatology, spine surgery, Hematology-Oncology, Cleft Palate/Cranio-Facial Surgery, and developmental pediatrics. Facilities include a 67-bed Level IV NICU, a 14-bed PICU, a 12-bed pediatric CV-ICU, a 4-bed Pediatric EMU, and a 44-bed pediatric unit with dedicated ER and transport teams. We are constructing a new 5-story Children's Hospital opening in early 2028.

In addition to clinical care, Ochsner Children's Hospital hosts an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency, and teaches residents from Tulane-Ochsner and medical students from Tulane and the University of Queensland. We also have academic collaborations with Xavier University of Louisiana and opportunities for research, multi-center trials, and publications.
