Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the initial qualification standards at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
- Degree: Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Licensure: Full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completion of approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification, including ACGME, AOA, or equivalent programs.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and are appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Additional Requirement: Board certification in Diagnostic Radiology.
- Preferred Experience: Abdominal imaging experience.
- Physical Requirements: Must meet physical standards, including a physical exam, and be able to lift 15-44 pounds, push, reach above shoulders, and perform other physical tasks.
Duties
- Provide oversight of quality and safety in imaging, including review of exam requests, protocol prescription, and image quality feedback.
- Perform primary image acquisition in Ultrasound, MRI, and CT; teach technologists and trainees.
- Oversee medication administration, radiation and MRI safety, infection control, and participate in quality assurance.
- Interpret imaging exams, generate reports, and support patient care with timely communication.
- Consult with providers, participate in clinical conferences, and interact with patients for relevant clinical history and procedures.
- Order medications, coordinate patient care, and make timely notifications of significant results.
- Sign reports within 48 hours, support education and research activities, and participate in medical staff functions and committees.
- Support academic affiliations and teaching programs, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in research as feasible.
