Position: Fully Remote Physician Coding Surgical Pediatric Senior Coder

This role involves coding surgical procedures for the Pediatric team, focusing on multiple specialties including Surgical. Production expectations vary based on the type of coding: straight E/M, Procedures, or a minimum of 9 encounters per hour.

  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts
  • Ideal Candidate: Minimum 3-5 years surgical coding experience
  • Requirements: 5 years of coding experience AND certification through AHIMA or AAPC

This position is available in specific states across the U.S. and offers flexible hours between 7 am – 7 pm, with a requirement of 5 days per week, Monday through Friday.

Position Summary

This role involves complex professional coding for physician practices, evaluating medical records, and ensuring accurate code assignment according to national guidelines. It includes supporting department projects, training staff, and leading discussions on coding practices.

Core Functions
  1. Analyze medical records, code diagnoses and procedures accurately, and consult with providers as needed.
  2. Abstract clinical data into electronic records, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  3. Ensure compliance with coding regulations and standards.
  4. Compile reports and support research or analysis activities.
  5. Identify and resolve validation and revision issues.
  6. Recognize complex diagnoses and procedures, ensuring precise coding and reimbursement.
  7. Mentor less experienced staff and assist in onboarding new coders.
  8. Manage work independently, prioritizing tasks and ensuring accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, formal training or Associate's degree in a related healthcare field, plus certification (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT). At least 5 years of specialized coding experience, with strong knowledge of ICD and CPT coding principles. Ability to work autonomously, with excellent critical thinking, organization, and attention to detail. Must be able to work remotely using standard office and coding software.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Radiology Certified Coder (RCC), if applicable.
  • Additional specialty coding certifications.
