Position Summary

Position Summary: This posting covers all Physician coding roles, including Physician Coder I, II, and Senior. Candidates will be considered for the appropriate role based on organizational needs, experience, assessment results, and qualifications.

Responsible for accurately coding physician services using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS systems, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure proper billing and documentation.

Responsibilities

For Coder I and II:

  1. Review medical records and code physician services using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
  2. Verify billable services based on physician documentation and federal guidelines.
  3. Report documentation issues to Senior Coder for review.
  4. Collaborate with team members to meet financial goals.
  5. Assist in follow-up of patient accounts to maximize reimbursement.
  6. Communicate effectively with physicians and team members.
  7. Maintain a 90% accuracy rate and attend scheduled meetings.
  8. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with policies.

For Senior Coder:

  1. Perform medical record reviews and coding similar to Coder I and II.
  2. Identify and report documentation issues to management.
  3. Support team goals and mentor junior coders.
  4. Provide data for reports and support management functions.
  5. Maintain a 90% accuracy rate and adhere to attendance policies.
Qualifications

Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent; knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology; proficiency in CPT and ICD coding (80%+ on skills test).

Licensure/Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CCS, CCS-P, CCA, or CMC from recognized bodies.

Experience:

  • Coder I: 1+ year of coding experience.
  • Coder II: 3+ years of coding experience, proficiency in multi-specialty E/M coding, and knowledge of surgical coding preferred.
  • Senior Coder: 5+ years of experience, proficiency in E/M and surgical coding, with specialization as applicable.
