Summary

The vascular surgeon at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center is a key member of the medical staff, operating within the Medical Staff Bylaws and VA regulations. The clinical privileges are approved through the Professional Standards Board at the facility.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic and any additional specified requirements. Pending training or license completion should be noted, as employment is contingent upon meeting all criteria. Current VA-employed physicians meeting previous standards are deemed qualified.

  • Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required; non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not feasible.
  • Education: MD or equivalent from an accredited institution approved by the VA.
  • License: Valid, unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Residency: Completed approved residency in a VA-recognized core specialty, leading to board eligibility.
  • Board Certification: Required for the Chief of Vascular Surgery.
  • Language: Proficiency in English.
  • Physical Requirements: Compliant with VA Directive 5019.
Duties
  • Serve as the clinical expert for vascular services, supervising staff and technicians.
  • Develop operational policies and coordinate vascular clinics, ensuring high standards of care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in quality management, medical meetings, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manage clinical activities across various settings, including operating rooms, emergency, and inpatient/outpatient services.
  • Oversee assessment, service recovery, and medical opinions, with oversight of medical students and residents.
  • Manage surgical care, including diagnostics, procedures, and consultations, adhering to standards.
  • Work collaboratively with academic partners and ensure documentation and performance reviews are maintained.
  • Utilize computer systems for documentation and ordering, and adhere to VA and accreditation standards.
