Additional Job Description

WVU School of Medicine, Department of Medicine seeks a board-certified hospice and palliative care medicine physician to serve as Section Chief of the Palliative and Supportive Care service. Successful candidates must have an MD, MD/PhD or DO degree (the employer accepts foreign educational equivalent) and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. Candidates must have completed an accredited fellowship in hospice and palliative care medicine. Applicants should have strong leadership skills to oversee programmatic and faculty development. Responsibilities also include providing excellent patient care and active involvement in the division’s Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine Fellowship programs. This position allows you to pursue your academic goals through educating future physicians and participating in clinical research projects.

Our well established and growing interdisciplinary Adult Palliative and Supportive Care Service (there is a separate mature Pediatric service) makes an extraordinary difference in the lives of patients not only locally, but also across our entire state and region. The WVU Medicine Palliative and Supportive Care Service provides statewide leadership to the West Virginia Center for End-of-Life Care, the West Virginia Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment (POST) program, and the West Virginia e-Directive Registry. West Virginia’s innovative system for supportive care is a national model with the e-Directive Registry and POST Paradigm anchoring one of only two mature programs in the country. This position provides an opportunity for significant involvement with these programs. Inpatient care responsibilities include inpatient consults at Ruby Memorial Hospital and inpatient telemedicine consult services to system hospitals across the state. Outpatient supportive care responsibilities include services at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, and the WVU Physician Office Center in a chronic disease clinic of your interest.
