Job description

Summary

The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System in Harlingen, Texas, is seeking a Physician (Chief of Pain Medicine) responsible for overseeing the operations of the Pain Management Program. A recruitment/relocation incentive may be offered to highly qualified candidates.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
  1. U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified U.S. citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.
  2. Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
  3. Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or D.C.
  4. Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  5. Additional requirements include proficiency in English, physical requirements, and preferred experience such as board certification or eligibility in relevant specialties, DEA and State licenses, and specific experience in Pain Medicine.
Duties
  1. Oversee administrative operations including budget, human resources, and strategic planning.
  2. Ensure integration of clinical and administrative functions to optimize resource utilization and service quality.
  3. Provide clinical care within the Pain Medicine Service and ensure adherence to all policies, standards, and regulations.
  4. Lead policy development, interdepartmental coordination, and staff training.
  5. Maintain current knowledge through continuing education.
  6. Provide patient and family education and informed consent.
  7. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
