Summary
Serve as a non-invasive Cardiologist evaluating, diagnosing, providing consultation, treating, and managing inpatients and outpatients with a wide variety of acute, chronic, and/or suspected diseases. Participate in the education of trainees and actively engage in basic, clinical, or health services research in cardiovascular disease.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensure may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to meet the current standards.
Basic Requirements
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completion of an accredited residency program leading to eligibility for board certification, approved by the VA.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Eligibility or Board Certification (preferred).
- Experience in managing patients with heart failure and cardiovascular research is preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation, including light lifting, reaching, and working alone.
Duties
- Participate in patient care, teaching, and administrative activities within the Cardiology Section/Medical Service.
- Provide medical care in all aspects of cardiology, including inpatient and outpatient care, and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Supervise and mentor trainees, conduct research, and participate in academic programs at the University of Colorado Denver.
- Attend on inpatient, outpatient, and other clinical services, with or without trainees.
- Teach medical students, interns, residents, and fellows.
- Contribute to process improvement, quality assurance, and administrative duties, including section meetings.
- Lead or collaborate in cardiovascular research.
- Provide expert consultation and treatment in outpatient and inpatient settings, including emergency departments.
- Coordinate care with primary care and other specialists, and provide on-call services as assigned.
- Monitor quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care, and perform administrative tasks such as peer reviews and professional evaluations.
- Participate in educational programs and attend required meetings.
- Maintain regular attendance and demonstrate ethical conduct, serving as a role model.
- Complete medical records in accordance with VA policies.
