Job description

Summary

Major functions of the position include preoperative cardiovascular risk assessment, goal setting for prevention, and chronic diseases management. A primary focus is on preventive medicine aimed at achieving positive patient outcomes, improving care coordination, reducing clinic waits or delays, and ensuring appropriate resource utilization. The role involves providing independent care delivery and specialty consultation for both chronic and acute medical needs.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion may be considered for referral and tentative selection but not hiring until all criteria are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only if qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA policy
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved medical school
  • Current unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Eligibility for appointment as Physician Resident Provider if enrolled in accredited residency programs
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Preferred: Board certified/prepared in Cardiology with 4+ years inpatient/outpatient experience; 2+ years Interventional Cardiology (post-fellowship)
  • Physical requirements include visual acuity, keen hearing, manual dexterity, and ability to perform prolonged physical activities
  • Ability to work effectively under stress and complete annual health requirements
Duties
  • Provide comprehensive cardiovascular care, including risk assessment, prevention, and management of cardiovascular diseases common in the veteran population
  • Write orders for diagnostics, prescribe medications, and consult with other specialties
  • Utilize electronic medical records effectively
  • Participate in clinical oversight and guide mid-level providers and trainees
