Job description

Summary

This is an open continuous announcement. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Applications will remain on file until May 9, 2025.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) OR (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training.
  • Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
  • PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
  • PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
  • Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred Experience: 2 years of cardiology experience Board certified/eligible.

  • Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.
Duties
  • An opportunity exists for a full or part-time Cardiologist at the Milo C. Huempfner Outpatient Clinic, located in Green Bay, WI.
  • The Milo C. Huempfner Outpatient Clinic is a new 162,000 square foot VA primary care and multi-specialty clinic located in Green Bay.
  • The clinic has a full scope outpatient Cardiology clinic along with an outpatient diagnostic testing center.
  • The successful candidate should be comfortable performing all aspects of adult cardiology.
  • All care will be provided in an outpatient setting only with no inpatient care responsibilities.
  • Qualified candidates should be BE/BC in Cardiology.
  • The selected candidate should demonstrate the ability to work well with a large, diverse, and dedicated patient care staff.
  • Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Provide cardiology care for outpatients at Milo C. Huempfner Green Bay HCC and Appleton CBOC, with further referral management from the Cleveland CBOC and surrounding areas.
    • Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiac diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.
    • Maintain current knowledge and skills.
    • Deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of Cardiology care, with a good diagnostic and therapeutic acumen.
    • Perform full general cardiology examinations on established or newly consulted patients, including electronic consultations (e-Consults) in the Cardiology clinics, for signs or symptoms of cardiac disease.
    • Identify, evaluate, and address cardiac diseases, prevention, and health promotion issues of the Veteran population.
    • Consult, manage, and provide education and counseling of Veterans in preventative care and apply evidence-based care for various cardiac conditions.
    • Supervise and interpret echocardiograms (including stress, dobutamine, and transesophageal echocardiograms).
    • Interpret holter monitor studies.
    • Interpret event recorder studies.
    • Interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs).
    • Certified in Nuclear Cardiology.
    • Supervise and interpret exercise stress tests.
    • Complete medical records in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations.
    • Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of and promotes performance improvement in meeting organizational goals.
    • Conduct point of care audits and peer reviews when requested by Division/Department Chief.
    • Teach effectively and creatively and provide guidance to others involved in the delivery of cardiology-related services.
    • Completes all mandatory training by due date.
    • Establish a professional relationship with clinical service providers within the outpatient center and screen consultative and procedural requests for appropriateness.
  • VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package:

    • Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.
    • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
