Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist

The Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Heart Institute is a renowned center of excellence dedicated to providing world-class cardiac care to pediatric patients and those with congenital heart disease. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a multidisciplinary team, we deliver comprehensive, compassionate, and innovative care to children, fetuses, and young adults with heart conditions. Our services include complex congenital heart surgery, interventional catheterization, electrophysiology, imaging, and preventive cardiology. The Advanced Pediatric Care Pavilion features a 34-bed telemetered cardiac inpatient unit with acuity-adjustable rooms. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is affiliated with Florida International University Herbert W. College of Medicine.

Position Overview

We seek a Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist to join our team, providing exceptional care in a dedicated 34-bed Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). The role involves 24-hour coverage, working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver cutting-edge critical care for patients with complex cardiac issues. The intensivist reports to the CICU Medical Director and collaborates with cardiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals, emphasizing clinical excellence, quality improvement, education, and research.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide comprehensive, evidence-based critical care for pediatric patients with cardiac conditions in the CICU.
  2. Conduct evaluations, diagnostics, and treatment planning, including mechanical support and perioperative care.
  3. Collaborate with cardiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
  4. Supervise and mentor APPs, fellows, residents, and trainees.
  5. Participate in research to advance pediatric cardiac critical care.
  6. Engage in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  7. Support the mission and strategic goals of the Heart Institute.
  8. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence in cardiac critical care.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • MD or equivalent from an accredited medical school.
  • Fellowship training (3 years) in Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, with options for combined or specialized training.
  • Unrestricted medical license and ABMS board certification in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Florida.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, education, and research.

Additional Duties

  • Apply knowledge of growth and development in patient care.

Qualifications
