Job description

Summary

The Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the Medical Center's Research and Development Service to help ensure the achievement of clinical, research, and education goals. The ideal candidate will have an established record of collaborative research with academic institutions and be proficient in research data analysis and interpretation, capable of presentation and publication.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at initial appointment are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
• Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• For residents: enrollment in an accredited residency program, full license, and appointment as Physician Resident Provider if applicable
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Physical ability to pass a physical exam

Duties

• Board-certified physician with advanced clinical, administrative, and leadership experience
• Meet faculty appointment criteria at affiliated academic institutions
• Provide clinical interface with academic partners and manage broad programs
• Demonstrate management skills and a commitment to interdisciplinary care
• Oversee and administer the R&D program alongside clinical duties
• Foster a customer-oriented culture, promote best practices, and empower staff
• Plan and coordinate high-quality research and ensure compliance with standards
• Encourage continuing education and research translation into patient care improvements
• Manage the service’s budget, develop strategic plans, and collaborate with other services for organizational efficiency
• Support risk-taking, innovation, and new revenue initiatives
