Mass General Brigham's Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking a licensed Physician Assistant to join the Travel Medicine team on a part-time basis. You will provide pre-travel counseling, vaccinations and clinical care under supervision of Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine specialists.

The position offers four 4-hour clinical shifts (plus administrative time), typically Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02462.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies.
  • PA license in good standing.
  • Minimum 2 years of PA experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in ambulatory and inpatient settings.
  • Perform comprehensive H&Ps and order appropriate labs and imaging.
  • Develop and adjust plans of care under supervision of Infectious Disease/Travel Medicine.
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up care for travel-related health issues.
  • Document all encounters accurately and timely.

Our Travel Medicine service provides care to those planning foreign travel. The team offers expert advice as well as pre-travel counseling, medication, and vaccinations to help patients enjoy a safer, healthier trip abroad.Under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine, the PA is responsible for establishing a comprehensive plan of care individualized to the age and needs of the patient to ensure safe travel abroad and prevention of diseases. The PA will also encourage preventative travel medicine through patient education and counseling.Other duties and responsibilities include:• Assisting the Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine physician staff in providing medical services to patients• Providing detailed initial evaluations including medical histories• Reviewing patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports• Ordering laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies appropriate for complaint, age, race, gender, and physical condition of the patient• Coordinating treatment plans• Monitoring patient progress• Referring patients as necessary to appropriate sources for care under the direction of the supervising physician• Participating in rounds with residents, completing daily patient management assignments and assisting with patient care and disposition• Handling medical emergencies during regular working hours on the inpatient serviceThis is a day shift position. The Travel Medicine clinic is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The PA will cover (4) 4-hour clinical shifts plus 1 block of administrative time. The shifts will likely be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with flexibility. We are located on the NWH Main Campus at 2014 Washington Street, Newton, 02462.SummaryThe Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.
