Job summary

Geisinger Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant to support inpatient and outpatient care with a focus on trauma alerts and med-surg patients. You will collaborate with physicians, APPs, RNs, and other staff to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.

The role involves rotating shifts, 12-hour days, and duties across inpatient and outpatient services, with Epic as the primary EHR. A Master’s degree and NCCPA certification are required, with comprehensive benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification required.
  • National NCCPA certification/licensure as Physician Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and establish presumptive diagnoses and implement treatment plans for patients.
  • Document accurate entries in the electronic medical record and order/interpret tests as appropriate.
  • Prescribe, adjust or discontinue medications or therapies as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with collaborating physician and multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
  • Provide patient education and guidance to patients and families in an understandable language.
  • Staff Trauma Alerts and Consultations; care for admitted Trauma Surgery patients on med-surg floors.

  • Shifts: 13**(**12 hour shifts) every 4 weeks
  • Support staff : Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, RNs (available all hours of operation), Phlebotomy, Radiology Techs
  • Electronic Health Record: Epic
  • Trauma Alerts and Consultations: Advanced Practice providers will staff Trauma Alerts and Consultations. Staff will also provide care to admitted Trauma Surgery patients on our med-surg floors.
  • Services : In-patient care, outpatient care, procedures
    • Minimal OR time
    • Opportunity for procedures
    • Occasional outpatient clinic
    • Monthly AP Meetings and Journal Clubs
    • Supportive and accessible Attending Physicians
    • Work with multi-disciplinary team including nurses, case management, social workers

Other details:
  • Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.
  • Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.
  • Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
  • Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient’s health or well-being.
  • Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the physician assistant license.
  • Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
  • Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.
  • Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
