Job summary

The Geisinger Orthopaedic Hand Surgery team in Danville, PA is seeking an advanced practitioner to provide autonomous patient care. You will evaluate, diagnose, and manage treatment for new and established patients alongside a physician, ordering tests and prescribing within the physician's scope.

You must have a Master’s degree as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner and be licensed with BLS certification, ready to collaborate with nursing and staff physicians to ensure high-quality care

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree for PA or NP licensure and board certification.
  • Active NYS/PA state licensure or eligibility and BLS certification.
  • Experience working in orthopaedics/hand surgery preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and formulate treatment plans in collaboration with physicians.
  • Document care and orders in the electronic medical record accurately.
  • Prescribe and adjust medications within the physician’s scope of practice.
  • Communicate with the team and patient care partners to ensure safety.
  • Perform procedures within the licensed scope of practice.
  • Educate patients and families, supporting understanding of plans.

Job Summary

The Orthopaedic team is looking for an advanced practitioner to join their team in Danville, PA. You would have the opportunity to work with the Hand Surgery team. In collaboration with the physician, provides care to new or established patients. Demonstrates autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Orders testing as deemed necessary and remains proficient in interpreting results and prescribing appropriate medication and therapeutic regimen within the scope of practice of the physician assistant. These roles, undertaken in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff, may include triage, telephone communication and patient education.

Job Duties
  • Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.
  • Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.
  • Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
  • Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.
  • Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the physician assistant license.
  • Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
  • Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.
  • Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Must be able to see patients of all ages.
