Job summary

OrthoCarolina in Charlotte is seeking a Physician Assistant to support our Shoulder & Elbow team. You will examine patients, order tests, administer treatments, and assist in surgery across office, hospital, and clinic settings.

The role emphasizes accuracy, patient management planning, and documentation, with opportunities for inpatient rounds and ER consultations as directed by supervising physicians.

Qualifications

• Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.
• Current North Carolina PA license.
• Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Prior experience in orthopedics preferred but not required.
• Prior experience as a physician assistant preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles data.
• Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets results with surgeons.
• Performs injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care.
• Assesses/apply/removes orthopaedic casts, splints and immobilization devices.
• Serves as assist-at-surgery for orthopedic procedures.
• Develops/implements patient management plans and documents progress.
• Dictates discharge summaries, histories, operative notes, and consults.
• Maintains and enters patient information in patient records using a computer.
• R rounds on inpatients and provides ER/floor consultations as directed.

Responsibilities may include assisting the physician in both the office and hospital setting, independent clinics seeing patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries and illnesses, assisting in the operating room as needed, and performing emergency room and floor consultations.Essential Functions:Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons/staff.Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Assesses, applies and/or removes a variety of orthopedic casts, splints, and immobilization devices.Serves as assist-at-surgery for orthopedic procedures.Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, applies appropriate codes and charges for service, and assists in provision of continuity of care.Dictates patient records including discharge summaries, history and physical evaluations, operative procedure notes, consultations and office visit notes. Documents patient information and care provided in patient record.
