Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Physician Assistant for a Primary Care role in Texas. Join a collaborative enhanced care team with dedicated support staff and mentorship for new graduates.

The schedule is Monday–Friday, with one half-day Saturday rotation and occasional extended hours, enabling strong patient relationships across diverse visits and procedures. You will perform exams, order and interpret tests, and participate in a broad range of procedures, while focusing on

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current Texas PA license and NCCPA certification.
• BLS certification required or within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem-focused physical exams and obtaining medical histories.
• Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribes, recommends, or uses medical drug therapies or other treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
• Creates and carries out detailed patient treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and team members.
• Counsels patients and families about medical processes, management of conditions, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Maintains records detailing treatment plans and outcomes and initiates referrals when needed.

Job Summary The Physician Assistant (PA) Primary Care is a licensed, certified healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. These providers typically provide care to patients in an internal medicine, family medicine, geriatric or pediatric clinic.

Essential Functions of the Role

• Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem-focused physical exams and obtaining medical histories.
• Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribes, recommends, or uses medical drug therapies or other treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost.
• Recommends interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
• Creates and carries out detailed patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and care standards. Collaborates with physicians and team members when needed.
• Evaluates patient's response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.
• Counsels patients and families regarding medical processes, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects. Discusses interactions with substances like food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
• Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope or expertise.
• Provide consultation level services for conditions /problems related to the Provider's specialty and training.
• Perform invasive procedures specific to scope of practice as delegated by supervising Physician.
• May provide care to patients in a team-based model. Focus on acute and chronic illness management and population health.

Key Success Factors

• Knowledge of information and techniques is needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
• Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
