Job summary

Wellpath seeks a Physician Assistant to deliver comprehensive medical care to inmates under medical leadership. You will evaluate and treat acute and emergency complaints, coordinate with physicians and mental health professionals, and document in EMR per protocols.

Requirements include an accredited PA program, active PA license, DEA registration, and BLS/PALS where applicable, with at least two years in a correctional or detention setting. US residency is required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited education program for PAs.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a relevant setting.
  • Unrestricted PA license and current DEA registration.
  • Current BLS and PALS certification where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver acute and emergency medical care in accordance with protocols.
  • Consult with physicians and manage patient transfers when clinically indicated; document findings using SOAP and EMR.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and participate in quality improvement efforts.
  • Provide cross-coverage and support psychiatric stability assessments.

How you make a difference

The Physician Assistant provides comprehensive medical care to inmates under the supervision of medical leadership. Responsibilities include evaluating and treating acute and emergency complaints, participating in administrative meetings, and supporting cross-coverage needs. The PA collaborates with physicians and mental health professionals, ensuring clinical documentation and treatment align with protocols. They maintain patient privacy and contribute to quality improvement activities. The role also involves emergency care coordination and psychiatric assessment support.

Qualifications & Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Completion of an accredited education program for PAs

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous correctional/detention facility experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Unrestricted current license, certification or registration in state of practice
  • Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
