Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the hepatology care team. The role emphasizes chronic liver conditions with clinic visits Monday–Friday, hospital rounding as needed, and occasional weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in PA studies and current PA license.
• PA-C or board eligible; active licensure required.
• MSN from State Board‑approved program and NP certification.
• Prescriptive Authority and DEA licensure within 60 days of hire.
• CPR (AHA) and ACLS certifications required; background clearances as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Record patient medical history and physicals; develop therapeutic plans; order tests; interpret results; document in EMR for physician office/non-acute settings.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate labs and diagnostic studies to guide treatment.
• Make medical diagnoses and institute therapy within scope and standards of practice.
• Institute emergency measures and stabilize patients in acute situations (cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, shock).
• Educate patients and families on health, medications, and community resources.
• Communicate plan with attending physician for decisions beyond PA scope.
• Maintain ongoing professional education and participate in safety, quality, and patient engagement initiatives.
• Specialty-specific procedures and privileges as privileged.

Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies

Current PA Physician Assistant License

GENERAL OVERVIEW

This job is an integral part of the care delivery system working together to provide a healing environment, by placing our customers first. The incumbent provides specialty and critical care healthcare services in physician office(s) and non- acute based settings with a focus on chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization within the Physician Assistant's scope of practice. Specialty certification, advanced procedures with appropriate privileging, weekend and on-call coverage on a rotational basis, as required. E-consults and telehealth could be included in the care provided.

Will be seeing hepatology patients in clinic Monday-Friday

Hospital rounding as needed

Weekends as needed

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides appropriate patient care to include recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plan, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, discharge planning and providing accurate medical record documentation for patients in physician office(s) and non- acute based settings (20%)
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies appropriate for the patient's condition to determine and implement treatment plans. (10%)
• Makes medical diagnoses and institute appropriate therapy within the applicable scope and standards of practice. (10%)
• Institutes emergency measures, treatment, or appropriate stabilization in acute patient situations such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock. (10%)
• Ensures appropriate understanding and timely documentation in the EMR to support accurate medical coding and billing, and record/report pertinent information to the attending physician of record. (10%)
• Educates patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication and treatment instructions, and recommend community resources as needed. (10%)
• Communicates effectively with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and involve them in clinical decision-making for any issues outside the Physician Assistant's knowledge base or scope of practice. (10%)
• Maintains mandatory professional continuing education, actively participate in patient safety, quality improvement, and patient engagement initiatives, and maintain professional practice consistent with organizational and advanced practice mission statements and specialty-specific privileges. (10%)
• Specialty specific procedures and expectations as stated with privileging and job agreement. (10%)

Qualifications

Required

• Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies
• Current PA Physician Assistant License
• PA-C or board eligible.

Substitutions

• Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
