Responsibilities

• Provides patient care including medical history, physicals, care plans, diagnostics, discharge planning, and medical record documentation.
• Orders and interprets labs and imaging to guide treatment decisions.
• Makes medical diagnoses and initiates appropriate therapy per scope of practice.
• Instigates emergency measures in acute events (e.g., cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, shock).
• Ensures accurate EMR documentation for coding and billing; communicates with attending physician.
• Educates patients and families on health, medications, and prevention; connects to community resources.
• Collaborates with attending physician on care plans and clinical decisions.
• Maintains continuing education, participates in safety and quality initiatives, and adheres to policies.
• Specialty-specific procedures as privileged and required by the role.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provides appropriate patient care to include recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plan, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, discharge planning and providing accurate medical record documentation for patients in physician office(s) and non-acute based settings (20%)
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies appropriate for the patient's condition to determine and implement treatment plans. (10%)
• Makes medical diagnoses and institute appropriate therapy within the applicable scope and standards of practice. (10%)
• Institutes emergency measures, treatment, or appropriate stabilization in acute patient situations such as cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or shock. (10%)
• Ensures appropriate understanding and timely documentation in the EMR to support accurate medical coding and billing, and record/report pertinent information to the attending physician of record. (10%)
• Educates patients and family members regarding health and illness prevention, medication and treatment instructions, and recommend community resources as needed. (10%)
• Communicates effectively with the attending physician regarding the plan of care and involve them in clinical decision-making for any issues outside the Physician Assistant's knowledge base or scope of practice. (10%)
• Maintains mandatory professional continuing education, actively participate in patient safety, quality improvement, and patient engagement initiatives, and maintain professional practice consistent with organizational and advanced practice mission statements and specialty-specific privileges. (10%)
• Specialty specific procedures and expectations as stated with privileging and job agreement. (10%)

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies
• Current PA Physician Assistant License
• PA-C or board eligible.

Substitutions

• Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
