Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a clinically skilled PA or NP to work primarily in an outpatient clinic setting with potential inpatient involvement as needed. The role emphasizes triage, patient communication, and coordination of follow-up care across Neurology services.

The successful candidate will be a graduate of an ARC-approved PA program or NP program, eligible or certified by respective state boards, and capable of working with patients of all ages within Geisinger’s Neuroscience Institute.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an ARC-approved physician assistant program and eligible or certified by the NCCPA.
• Must be eligible or certified by the PA State Board of Medicine.
• Nurse Practitioner candidates must have a completion certificate for NP programs and be eligible or certified by the PA State Board of Nursing and be able to work with all patient age groups.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial assessment and triage of patients in an outpatient clinic setting.
• Track pertinent procedures and lab results, discuss with physicians, and communicate results and plans to families and patients.
• Assist in arranging appropriate follow-up for patients.
• Answer and return calls from established patients and families; assess needs.
• Communicate plans with physicians and relay information to families and patients.
• Obtain or assist in preauthorization for medications, diagnostics, and treatments.
• Screen patients as required.

Job description

The NP or PA will work primarily in an outpatient clinic setting. An inpatient component may arise if needed.

The ideal candidate will:

• Performs initial assessment and triage of patients based on information obtained pertinent to presenting condition.
• Keeps track of pertinent procedure and laboratory results, discusses with physician, and returns call to family and patient regarding the results and plans.
• Assists with arranging appropriate follow-up for the patients.
• Answers and returns phone calls from established patients and their families and assess the needs of patient and family.
• Discusses plan with the physician and relays information to the family and patient.
• Obtains or assists in the preauthorization process for medications, diagnostic studies, and treatments.
• which the employee is qualified to perform.
• Screening patients.

The successful Physician Assistant must be a graduate of a ARC-approved physician assistant program, eligible or certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants and eligible or certified by the State Board of Medicine.

The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners and must be eligible for or certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Must be certified to work with all patient population age groups.
