Overview

JOB TITLE: Physician Assistant

DEPARTMENT: General Medicine

REPORTS TO: Chief Medical Officer

POSITION OVERVIEW: Promotes and maintains health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician.

Responsibilities

PA DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues, providing relevant information, recommending options, and implementing directives.
  2. Assesses patient health through interviews, physical examinations, and reviewing medical histories.
  3. Determines abnormal conditions via diagnostic tests such as x-rays, ECGs, and labs; interprets results.
  4. Documents patient care in records.
  5. Performs therapeutic procedures including injections, suturing, and wound management.
  6. Instructs and counsels patients on therapeutic regimens, development, family planning, and emotional support.
  7. Develops and implements patient management plans for continuity of care.
  8. Maintains a safe, clean environment, adhering to procedures and regulations.
  9. Follows infection control policies to protect patients and staff.
  10. Engages in continuous self-improvement through training and education.
  11. Ensures compliance with safety, health standards, and regulations.
  12. Implements measures to deliver high-quality care and improve services.
  13. Responds promptly to patient and staff needs and inquiries.
  14. Provides excellent customer service to all patients.
  15. Assists in managing patient scheduling and flow to optimize efficiency.
  16. Handles patient grievances according to policies.
  17. Participates in developing and reviewing policies and procedures.
  18. Maintains HIPAA compliance and confidentiality of patient data.
  19. Attends mandatory meetings and trainings, including quarterly staff meetings, risk management, and operational meetings.
  20. Remains informed of legal, regulatory, and program updates relevant to practice.
  21. Maintains professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and networking.
  22. Contributes to team development through education and sharing information.
  23. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California P.A. license; certification preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • FQHC experience highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Initiative and thoroughness in task completion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures.
  • Computer proficiency (e.g., NextGen EHR/PMS, MS Word, Excel).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with cultural familiarity.
  • Valid California driver’s license, automobile, and insurance.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare to underserved communities.
  • Willingness to adapt to organizational growth and change.
