Job summary

Geisinger’s Heart Institute is seeking a Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our growing practice at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The role supports a collaborative cardiothoracic surgery team with duties from preop to postoperative care.

Responsibilities include evaluating patients with surgeons, coordinating testing and scheduling, and managing referrals and heart-team discussions for valve and structural heart care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree-Physician Assistant (Required).
• Master’s Degree-Physician Assistant (Preferred).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and NCCPA certification/licensure.

• Evaluate and prepare patients for cardiothoracic surgery in partnership with cardiac surgeons.
• Coordinate preoperative testing, surgical scheduling, medical clearances, and patient education.
• Manage outpatient referrals and participate in Heart Team discussions for valve and structural heart cases.
• Round on postoperative cardiac surgery patients and assist with inpatient management.
• Coordinate discharges, follow-up care, and recovery planning.
• Conduct postoperative visits and manage patient questions, calls, and portal messages.

Job Duties:

Join our collaborative cardiothoracic surgery team and play a key role in guiding patients through every stage of their surgical journey, from initial evaluation to postoperative recovery.

In this role, you will:

• Evaluate and prepare patients for cardiothoracic surgery in partnership with cardiac surgeons.


• Coordinate preoperative testing, surgical scheduling, medical clearances, and patient education.


• Manage outpatient referrals and participate in Heart Team discussions for valve and structural heart patients.


• Round on postoperative cardiac surgery patients and assist with ongoing inpatient management.


• Coordinate discharges, follow-up care, and recovery planning.


• Conduct postoperative visits and manage patient questions, phone calls, and portal messages.
