Geisinger Heart Institute is seeking a Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This role partners with cardiac surgeons to guide patients through evaluation, planning, and postoperative care within a collaborative cardiothoracic team.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree for Physician Assistant, with a Master's preferred, BLS certification, and NCCPA credentials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree-Physician Assistant required.
• Master's Degree-Physician Assistant preferred.
• Basic Life Support certification (BLS) and NCCPA certification/license required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cardiac surgeons to evaluate and prepare patients for cardiothoracic surgery.
• Coordinate preoperative testing, scheduling, clearances and education.
• Manage postoperative inpatient care and assist with discharge planning.
• Round on postoperative patients and address questions via calls and messages.
• Participate in Heart Team discussions for valve and structural heart cases.

Job Summary

Geisinger's Heart Institute is seeking a Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our growing practice at Geisinger Community Medical Center located in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Job Duties

• Join our collaborative cardiothoracic surgery team and play a key role in guiding patients through every stage of their surgical journey, from initial evaluation to postoperative recovery.
• Evaluate and prepare patients for cardiothoracic surgery in partnership with cardiac surgeons.
• Coordinate preoperative testing, surgical scheduling, medical clearances, and patient education.
• Manage outpatient referrals and participate in Heart Team discussions for valve and structural heart patients.
• Round on postoperative cardiac surgery patients and assist with ongoing inpatient management.
• Coordinate discharges, follow-up care, and recovery planning.
• Conduct postoperative visits and manage patient questions, phone calls, and portal messages.
